Sheryln Hayes-Zorn

Curator of Manuscripts | Nevada Historical Society

Sheryln Hayes-Zorn serves as the Curator of Manuscripts, Nevada Historical Society and as a board member of the Nevada Women’s History Project. She earned a BA in Broad Field History with minors in Community Service, Social Service, and an emphasis in Political Science from Montana State University – Northern and has graduate course credit in Museum Studies from the University of Leicester, England and History from the University of Nevada – Reno.

Zorn began her career in the museum field in 1997, where she served as Registrar and Curator at the Churchill County Museum & Archives in Fallon, Nevada. In 2001, she joined the staff of the Nevada Historical Society where she has served in the key positions of Curator of Museum Artifacts, Acting Director, and her current role as Curator of Manuscripts.

Zorn took an active role in promoting local authors and artists through the Society’s programming and exhibitions while serving as the Acting Director. She created the Society’s membership newsletter and worked with the Quarterly editor and production manager on managing the Nevada Historical Society Quarterly. In her current role as Curator of Manuscripts, Zorn oversees the Society’s Manuscript collections, educational tours and works with the general public and researchers, helping the public with research and photo requests. Her focus is to work creating digital projects and making more content available to a wide audience through Society’s website. Doing researching and providing access to the Society’s hidden collections is her passion.

Zorn has also been involved with the Reno History App, the University Museums group and has worked on many partnerships to help promote Nevada’s history and the Society. She currently serves on the advisory board for the Nevada Women’s History Project; programming co-chair for Historic Reno Preservation Society, and is a former treasurer and President of the Nevada Museum Association.
