Eleanor M. Schetlin, Ed.D., of the East Hampton, NY Springs area, died on February 22, 2007 after a year-long illness. Born on New York's Roosevelt (then Welfare) Island in 1920, Schetlin had a forty-two year career in education and was Associate Dean of Students and Director of Student Services at the Health Sciences Center, S.U.N.Y. from 1971 to 1985. In earlier days Schetlin was Director of Recreation at the Metropolitan Hospital School of Nursing (1944-1959), Assistant Dean of Students at S.U.N.Y. College of Plattsburg's Nurse Teacher Program (1963-1964), Coordinator of Student Personnel Services in the Office of the Dean of Students at Hunter College, C.U.N.Y. (1967-1968), and Director of Student Personnel at the College of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Columbia University (1969-1971) where she served as Assistant Director of Personnel (1968-1969). Throughout her life Schetlin was instrumental in the development and funding of programs for racial equality and for establishing women as full and equal citizens. She was an active member of National Organization For Women (NOW) and held offices in Mid-Suffolk NOW, Nassau now and East End NOW, all on Long Island, NY. In addition, she served as a volunteer in NOW-New York State under the 1987-1992 presidency of Marilyn Fitterman, her long-time friend and neighbor. Schetlin published twenty-four articles in professional journals and was listed in Who's Who of American Women and in Barbara J. Love's recently-published encyclopedia Feminists Who changed America 1963-1975: U. of Illinois; Urbana and Chicago 2006. She is survived by her sister, Isabel McNeil of Longmeadow, MA, two nieces: Katherine Evans of Peekskill, NY, Pam Kaufman of New Canaan, CN and a nephew, Harry Douglas McNeil of Agawam, MA.
