Employment

Julia helped her mother at home after graduating from grade school. She married at age 18 and then became a homemaker and stay-at-home mom. She and her husband had a small business making and selling sauerkraut and pickles. Some years later she and her husband bought and ran a dairy farm

Affiliations

Julia was a long-time member of the St. Peter's Altar and Rosary Society. As a member of this society, she prayed the rosary daily, offering up many prayers for her friends and family. As a member of the Altar and Rosary Society, she also helped the society clean St. Peter's Church twice yearly, before Easter and Christmas. After their cleaning, the church always smelled wonderful and all the wood glowed from scrubbing and waxing.

Interests

Julia was a great gardener, cook, baker, and canner of all kinds of fruits and vegetables. She and her husband made sauerkraut together, which she also canned. She also raised many kinds of indoor plants. In summary, she loved to see all things - plants, animals, and children - bloom and grow.

Additional Comments

Julia was a warm, kind, and loving mother. She moved to the country to help her husband fulfill his life-long dream of having a farm. She stood by him during the depression when the economy hit farmers especially hard. She raised 8 children, who all contributed to society in various ways.

In spite of a hard life, Julia remained cheerful throughout and taught her children the value of humor, patience, endurance, kindness, and hard work.
