2018 Women Making History Awards

On Tuesday, May 22, 2018  founder of the 'me too.' movement Tarana Burke and award-winning journalist and author Cokie Roberts received the Women Making History Award, an honor given to a select group who have made significant contributions to their field and serve as an inspiration to women and men, girls and boys, everywhere.  

With CNN’s Chief Political Correspondent Dana Bash serving as mistress of ceremonies, the event celebrated Cokie's and Tarana's extraordinary achievements and generated awareness about the importance of preserving women’s history in a museum on the National Mall in Washington, DC.  Here’s what Cokie and Tarana had to say about the Museum: 

People need to see what women have done. When you leave half the population out of history, then it’s not true. It’s fake news. People need to see these stories, so we can be inspired and learn from them... - Cokie Roberts

The fact is we have to be intentional and purposeful about women’s history and building this museum...  If we are not intentional, it won’t happen. We need to be those people who when they see us coming, they say ‘you know she’s going to ask us about that building again.’ Yes, we are. - Tarana Burke
