America at 250

Commemorating America's Semiquincentennial

America250 Logo

The National Women’s History Museum (NWHM) is dedicated to enriching our cultural dialogue over the next 250 years by incorporating women’s history. We invite participants to share their own stories, explore the impact of women’s contributions to America's first 250 years, and recover forgotten histories to better reflect “we the people.”

As the NWHM strives to close the nation’s gender equity gap through the reflective study of women’s and gender-based history, we welcome the opportunity to serve as America250's National Resource Partner for Women's History to create a meaningful, inclusive, and forward-looking 250th-anniversary experience.

Our efforts include amplifying and contributing to America250’s semiquincentennial programs, collecting and connecting individual stories to better understand what it means to be American, co-creating content with national partners, and updating our signature social studies curriculum report, Where are the Women?

NWHM seeks to inspire thoughtful, meaningful, and intergenerational participation during this commemoration and beyond. Check this page often for news, updates, and opportunities to get involved.

America Gives

America Gives is nationwide effort focused on reinvigorating a year-round culture of service beyond 2026 – grounded in three key pillars: charitable giving, volunteering, and public service – which includes military service. The National Women's History Museum is proud to share, highlight, and amplify the profound ways in which women uplift their communities and our nation through acts of courage and service.

Chronicles of American Women

Every woman has a story. The National Women's History Museum is excited to re-open and expand our popular Chronicles of American Women initiative, a complement to America250's Our American Story project, to create an robust archive of American women's stories, to be submitted by participants nationwide.  A call for submissions will launch in 2025.

America's Field Trip

America250's America’s Field Trip is a nationwide scholastic contest encouraging students to reflect on what America means to them. Thousands of students from across the country submitted inspiring entries, responding to the prompt “What does America mean to you?” for the first-ever America’s Field Trip contest. A panel of current and former educators selected 150 students as awardees, hailing from 44 states and territories. Each first-place awardee will take part in a special field trip experience at one of America’s iconic historical and cultural sites and second-place awardees will receive a $500 cash award.

While the initial contest is now closed, another America’s Field Trip contest for the 2024-2025 school year will begin in/around September 2024. Sign up here to receive updates.
