Charles Hastings
Charles Hastings serves as Foundation and Special Programs Manager for Whitman-Walker Foundation, the community-based philanthropic arm of Whitman-Walker, a 50-year-old non-profit organization with a legacy in HIV and LGBTQ care, research policy and education. Since joining the Foundation team in 2020, Hastings has directed a major overhaul and conversion of the donor databases, managed and revamped multiple giving programs, including the monthly and planned giving programs, and created a series of community centered tours for Whitman-Walker’s newly expanded health and community research center in southeast DC.
Prior to joining Whitman-Walker, Charles was the Donor Database Manager at the National Trust for Historic Preservation, which works to inspire Americans to save the places where history happened, where he optimized database operations and performance in a high-volume national membership setting. Additionally, he served as a tour guide at the United States Capitol Building, where he curated original tours designed to introduce and educate about the rich history of the building, its artwork, and its symbolism for American democracy around the world.
Born in a small town on Maryland’s Eastern Shore, Charles grew up in a military family, living many years in Europe, primarily Germany, as well as Mississippi and Colorado. Charles attended Wesley College in Dover, Delaware, where he served as president of the campus Gay-Straight Alliance and graduated with a degree in American History and Politics. Charles is the proud human of a rescue cat named Gigi and lives in Washington, DC’s historic Shaw neighborhood.
