Education Programs Manager

The National Women’s History Museum has an immediate opening for an Education Programs Manager who will provide comprehensive oversight of the Museum’s educational program initiatives, as well as conceptualization, research, planning, implementation, and evaluation support of the Museum’s in-person public programs. Responsibilities include working collaboratively across departments to participate in, design, and successfully implement public programs, overseeing digital learning initiatives, and supporting the Museum’s internships and fellowships programs. They will also serve as the point of contact on most program offerings ensuring efficiency, fostering positive audience experiences, and strengthening community partnerships. 

 

Under the supervision of the Director of Education, the Education Programs Manager position encompasses the develop, presentation, and support of programs that interpret the museum’s mission for school audiences, corporate and community organizations, and the general public. They will be responsible for ensuring that the planning and implementation of these programs are in alignment with the organization’s mission, vision, and strategic direction. This position is part of the Education Team and works closely with colleagues to support the development of programs and delivery of impactful learning experiences for youth and adult audiences.
 

Responsibilities

  • Engage public audiences in a variety of manners including, but not limited to, children’s programming, scholarly introductions, and other public programs as needed 
  • Contribute to the advancement of institutional strategic priorities, manage evaluative efforts, and innovate programs to enliven the Museum’s mission 
  • Develop and deliver in-person educational and public programs that appeal to a broad general audience and connects with diverse communities at the local and regional levels 
  • Develop clear goals, expectations, and measures for in-person programs that align with overall institutional goals
  • Manage the NWHM Education Department internships and fellowships programs, including recruiting, training, project development, and management
  • Manage Associate Educators’ day-to-day operations;
  • Collaborate with Development and External Affairs Teams as needed for funding requests or communications materials
  • Eligible to work flexible hours as evenings and weekends hours will be needed in accordance with programmatic schedules


Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Confident, engaging, and compelling public speaker
  • Familiarity with museums and museum education practices (particularly interpretation, online learning, digital content development platforms), gallery teaching, volunteer management, and evaluation
  • Understanding of pedagogical techniques, including approaches to formal and informal learning and expertise in one or more of the following areas: museum education, gender studies, or women’s history
  • Able to synthesize content into compelling, audience-centered experiences for audiences of diverse ages, interests, and motivations
  • Committed to welcoming, valuing, and engaging positively with people of all backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences, as well as supporting and promoting an environment that welcomes differences and diversity
  • Engage comfortably and consistently with the public with an aptitude to program management
  • Exceptional communicator with outstanding written, organizational, analytical, time management, and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated experience in the development of innovative programming
  • Well-developed commitment to collaborative leadership and the ability to manage and grow a team’s skills
  • Manages stressful situations calmly, while remaining hospitable
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office required; experience with Asana is a plus; able to navigate or learn other platforms as needed


Qualifications

  • M.A. or equivalent experience in history, museum education, museum studies, or gender studies
  • Minimum 5 years experience managing educational and/or public programs in museums, archives, libraries, or a related humanities/informal learning field

Salary Range

  • $85,000 - $95,000 and full benefits package
